The Harpooners of the Sea Unicorn is a scion society of the
BAKER STREET IRREGULARS
and is a literary society dedicated to the study of
SHERLOCK HOLMES,
as well as, literature, personalities, and other things Victorian
If you are interested in the records of the activities of Mr Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson,
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, or Victoria’s England, this group is for you!
You needn't have read all (or any) of the stories of The Canon (or Sacred Writings) we will do it together.
All you need provide is interest (and modest dues.)
We meet at and enjoy: The Mother-in-Law House Rathskeller
500 South Main Street
In Historic Saint Charles
We meet each month, with rare exception, on the fourth Friday.
(Days/dates or location could change, please call if no newsletter is received)
See "Meeting Times and Dates" page for complete schedule!
Our meetings consist of a Sherlock Holmes story, presented in some particular order and read by members before the meeting; a planned presentation with discussion of the story (on anything Sherlockian, Holmesian, or Victorian anyone wishes to contend or debate). 2007 we have started watching the "Rathbone/Bruce" movies as something different. We should be starting the Canon again soon. There is ample time for libations.
Why is there so much interest in things Victorian and in Sherlock Holmes in particular? Why are the activities of Mr Sherlock Holmes one of the three most read, written about, and filmed pieces of literature in the world?
Come to our discussion group and help us explore the answers.
